RBI Cuts Repo Rate by 25 points to relief citizens

বিক্রম ব্যানার্জী, কলকাতা: ডিসেম্বরের একেবারে প্রথম দিন থেকেই জল্পনা বেড়েছিল হয়তো কমতে পারে রেপো রেট। অবশেষে সেই জল্পনায় সিলমোহর দিয়ে শুক্রবার রেপো রেট কমানোর ঘোষণা দিল রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্ক অফ ইন্ডিয়া (RBI Cuts Repo Rate)। RBI র সিদ্ধান্তে চলতি বছরের একেবারে শেষ প্রান্তে এসে ফের 25 বেসিস পয়েন্ট কমানো হল রেপো রেট। যার জেরে এবার থেকে বাড়ি-গাড়ি লোনে নিয়ে থাকলে কম গুনতে হবে EMI। এক কথায়, রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্ক অফ ইন্ডিয়ার নতুন সিদ্ধান্তে স্বস্তিতে সাধারণ নাগরিকরা।

কেন রেপো রেট কমানোর সিদ্ধান্ত RBI র?

সাধারণ নিয়ম অনুযায়ী, অন্তত দুমাস পরপর রেপো রেট নিয়ে বৈঠকে বসে রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের মনিটর পলিসি কমিটি। এই কমিটির অধীনেই ঠিক হয় নতুন রেপো রেট। আজ অর্থাৎ শুক্রবার সকালেও একইভাবে গভর্নর সঞ্জয় মালহোত্রার নেতৃত্বে একটি কমিটি বৈঠক হয়। আর সেই বৈঠকেই রেপো রেট 25 বেসিস পয়েন্ট কমানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে। কিন্তু কেন এমন সিদ্ধান্ত? জানা যাচ্ছে, সাম্প্রতিককালে যেহেতু টাকার দাম বেশ খানিকটা পড়েছে, এদিকে টাকা মাথা নোয়ালেও মুদ্রাস্ফীতির হাআরও কমে গিয়েছে। মূলত সেই কারণেই সাধারণ নাগরিকদের সুবিধার্থে রেপো রেট কমিয়ে দিল RBI।

রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের সিদ্ধান্তের পর 25 বেসিস পয়েন্ট রেপো রেট কমে দেশের বর্তমান রেপো রেট 5.25 শতাংশ। এ নিয়ে রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের গভর্নর সঞ্জয় একেবারে সাফ জানিয়েছেন, “সাধারণ মানুষের কথা ভেবেই এই পদক্ষেপ… নতুন বছরে নতুন আশা নিয়ে পা রাখুক দেশবাসী।” বলাই বাহুল্য, শেষবারের মতো গত জুন মাসে মুদ্রানীতির বৈঠক চলাকালীন সাধারণ মানুষের পকেটে কথা চিন্তা করে 50 বেসিস পয়েন্ট রেপো রেট কমিয়ে দিয়েছিল RBI। যার ফলে জুন থেকে নতুন রেপো রেট হয় 5.50 শতাংশ। এবার সেটাই আরও 25 বেসিস পয়েন্ট কমে 5.25 এ গিয়ে ঠেকল।

উল্লেখ্য, দেশজুড়ে ব্যাপক মুদ্রাস্ফীতির কারণে গত বছর অর্থাৎ 2024 সালে ধাপে ধাপে ব্যাপক হারে রেপো রেট বাড়িয়ে দিয়েছিল রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্ক। এর আগে 2022 থেকে 2023 সাল পর্যন্ত 250 বেসিস পয়েন্ট রেপো রেট বাড়িয়েছিল দেশের শীর্ষ ব্যাঙ্ক। এরপর 2023-24 আর্থিক বছরে রেপো রেট অপরিবর্তিত রাখে RBI। চলতি আর্থিক বছরে পৌঁছে এবারে ভিন্ন পথে হাঁটল রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্ক। এ নিয়ে পরপর তিনবার নিম্নমুখী রেপো রেট।
