প্রয়াত ইস্টবেঙ্গল, মোহনবাগানে খেলা দাপুটে ফুটবলার

বিক্রম ব্যানার্জী, কলকাতা: একটা সময় দাপিয়ে ফুটবল খেলেছেন ইস্টবেঙ্গলের হয়ে। সেই প্রাক্তন ফুটবলার মোহন সিং চলে গেলেন না ফেরার দেশে (Footballer Death)। মৃত্যুকালে বয়স হয়েছিল 79 বছর। পরিবার সূত্রে খবর, দীর্ঘদিন বার্ধক্যজনিত সমস্যায় ভুগছিলেন তিনি। যার কারণে বিগত কিছুদিন ধরে চিকিৎসা চলছিল প্রাক্তন ফুটবলারের। তবে শেষ রক্ষা হল না। কলকাতার এক বেসরকারি হাসপাতালের বেডে শুয়েই শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করলেন মোহন সিং।

খেলেছেন তিন প্রধানের হয়েই

সালটা 1967। সে বছরই ফুটবল পায়ে নিজের যাত্রা শুরু করেছিলেন মোহন সিং। পাঞ্জাবে জন্ম হওয়া এই প্লেয়ার প্রথমবার খেলেছিলেন এরিয়ান ক্লাবের হয়ে। এরপর বেশ কয়েকটি ক্লাব ঘুরে 1972 সালে ইস্টবেঙ্গলে যোগ দিয়েছিলেন তিনি। এরপর থেকে বল পায়ে নিজেকে মেলে ধরেছিলেন এই ফুটবলার। তবে মাঝে লাল হলুদে কিছু সমস্যা হওয়ার কারণে যোগ দেন মোহনবাগানে। সেখানে একটা লম্বা সময় ফুটবল খেলে ফের 1975 এ ভিড়েছিলেন ইস্টবেঙ্গলেই।

বলাই বাহুল্য, ইস্টবেঙ্গলের হয়ে নিজের ফুটবল জীবনে আটটি ট্রফি জিতে ছিলেন মোহন সিং। সবচেয়ে বড় কথা, মহামেডান ঘুরে জাতীয় দলে যোগদান করেছিলেন এই ফুটবলার। এক কথায়, কলকাতার তিন প্রধানে নিজের ছাপ রাখার পাশাপাশি জাতীয় দলেও নিজের যোগ্যতার প্রমাণ দিয়েছিলেন মোহন বাবু। এখানেই শেষ নয়, সন্তোষ ট্রফিতে বাংলা দলের হয়ে প্রতিনিধিত্ব করেছিলেন তিনি।

ভারতের অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ফুটবলার ছিলেন মোহন সিং। এহেন একজন ফুটবলারের মৃত্যুতে শোকস্তব্ধ ভারতীয় ক্রীড়া জগত। ইতিমধ্যেই প্রাক্তন ভারতীয় ফুটবলারের মৃত্যুতে শোক প্রকাশ করেছে বিভিন্ন ক্লাব। ভারতীয় ফুটবল ফেডারেশনের তরফেও মোহন সিং এর অতীত স্মরণ করিয়ে এসেছে শোকবার্তা। বলে রাখি, একজন দক্ষ ফুটবলারের পাশাপাশি একটা সময় চুটিয়ে ক্রিকেটও খেলেছেন পাঞ্জাবের ফুটবলার মোহন সিং। না বললেই নয়, সুনীল গাভাস্কার, সুরিন্দম অমরনাথের সাথে ভারতীয় স্কুল দলেও ক্রিকেট খেলার সুযোগ পেয়েছিলেন মোহন।
