এক রিপোর্ট অনুযায়ী, পূর্ব রেলের জেনারেল ম্যানেজার গীতিকা পান্ডে সংবাদমাধ্যমের মুখোমুখি হয়ে জানিয়েছে , এই বিনিয়োগের মূল লক্ষ্য হলো এই অঞ্চলে (Region) রুটের সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি করা। রেল কর্তারা জানিয়েছেন, মোট বরাদ্দের মধ্যে প্রায় ১০,০০০ কোটি টাকা ৫৬৩ কিলোমিটার রেললাইন সম্প্রসারণে ব্যয় করা হবে এবং আরও ২,০০০ কোটি টাকা ১০টি বাইপাস প্রকল্পের জন্য বরাদ্দ রাখা হয়েছে। গীতিকা পান্ডে আরও বলেছেন, শক্তিশালী রেল সংযোগ লজিস্টিক খরচ কমাতে, সরবরাহ শৃঙ্খল উন্নত করতে এবং বাজারগুলোকে আরও দক্ষতার সাথে সংযুক্ত করার মাধ্যমে উৎপাদন খাতের প্রতিযোগিতামূলক ক্ষমতা বাড়াতে সাহায্য করতে পারে।

তিনি জানান, ‘ট্রেন বাজার, মানুষ এবং আকাঙ্ক্ষাকে সংযুক্ত করে। গীতিকা পান্ডের মতে, একটি শক্তিশালী রেল নেটওয়ার্ক লজিস্টিক খরচ কমাতে, সরবরাহ শৃঙ্খলকে সুসংহত করতে এবং উৎপাদন খাতের প্রতিযোগিতামূলক ক্ষমতা বাড়াতে সাহায্য করবে। এর পাশাপাশি অর্থনীতিতে নিজেদের অবদান জোরদার করার জন্য তিনি ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্প প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোকে উদ্ভাবনী পণ্য এবং সাশ্রয়ী সমাধান তৈরিতে মনোযোগ দেওয়ার আহ্বান জানান।

এমনিতেই যত সময় করছে ততই পূর্ব রেল থেকে শুরু করে দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব রেলের পরিধি বাড়ছে। খুলে যাচ্ছে একের পর এক রেলপথের দরজা। যাইহোক, অদূর ভবিষ্যতেই রেলের এই ১২,০০০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগের পরিকল্পনা যদি সফল হয় তাহলে সব থেকে বেশি উপকৃত হবেন সাধারণ যাত্রীরা তাতে কোনও সন্দেহ নেই।
